Handmade in our Kent workshop – all of our slate is cut, polished and engraved on site! The same goes for our Oak Posts too; they’re cut, planned and sanded onsite, by us! This way we can ensure that your Slate House on a post is finished to the highest of standards – and really give you that quality that you’d expect.
The Slate House Sign on a post measures 30cm x 30cm x 2cm – with the length of the post being chosen by you. The 20mm thickness of the slate nameplate really does add that prestige look and real feel of high quality. The surface and edges of the slate is hand polished – these means that the slate has a smooth and tactile finish.
Slate House Sign – The Engraving
You’re slate house sign will have your house name (or house number) deep engraved into the surface of the slate. Once engraved, you then have the option to have your letting in your slate sign hand-painted in white, gold, silver or even 24.5ct Gold, to really add the ‘wow’ factor finish to your sign.
The deep engraving ensures that your slate house sign on a post will be long lasting and will withstand extreme weathering over many, many years. Whilst laser etching (surfacing engraving) may leave a nice finish too – it will not provide the longevity that you need from a House Sign.
Slate is a natural stone – this means that it is hardwearing and requires little to no maintenance (yay!). Being a natural product, the slate can also contain an aurora of beautiful patterns and shadows of colour, meaning no one piece of slate will be the same.
Slate House Sign on a post – The Post
The wood we use for your slate house sign posts’ are solid Oak. Oak posts are ideal opposed to cheaper softwood materials because they are a hardwood, meaning they’re better for external use due to their hardwood features. Oak is strong, hard, heavy and dense with very close grain and, due to their high tannin content, they are very resistant to insect and fungal infestations – which always helps when being used outside and open to the elements.
Our Oak posts measure an impressive thickness of 7.5cm x 7.5cm as standard. You’ll often seen thinner oak posts of around 3.5/4cm thick; however, having thicker posts not only makes your post sign more prominent (and impressive to say the least!) – but it also means that it is sturdier, therefore, there is less chance of the oak bending and warping over time.
Your slate house sign will come with the Oak Post fully treated. It will have several treatments of an oak protection oil, to help protect it against weathering.
As you would hope to expect, all of the oak we use is FSC certified meaning it is sustainably resourced.
We don’t specify the length of post because you get to choose! From the product options, you’ll see varying oak post lengths that you can choose from to suit your needs. Custom requests can also be made – just get in touch!
